The league is designed for recreational-level play, with teams competing against others at the same grade level. It follows an in-house equivalency format, emphasizing equal playing time for all participants to ensure a positive and inclusive experience.

Volunteer requirements for 4th-8th Grade SW Metro League families

Volunteer Commitment Requirements

Each season, volunteer opportunities are available primarily during our Shakopee-hosted Travel Tournaments in late October and mid-January. Families with players in the SWL (grades 4–8) are required to complete 2 hours of volunteer work (equivalent to one shift). This is a family requirement, not per player. For families with multiple SWL players, only 2 hours total are required. If you also have a player in Winter Travel, your total family commitment increases to 4 hours. DIBS commitments are finalized in early October each season.

You can fulfill your volunteer hours at either of our hosted tournaments. No deposit checks will be collected. You (or a replacement over the age of 16) are responsible for meeting this requirement. Volunteering is essential to keeping our fees low, supporting our programs, and ensuring the continued success of Shakopee Basketball.

Important: Failure to fulfill your volunteer commitment by the conclusion of our January Travel Tournament will result in your player’s immediate removal from the team.

recreation night

As part of the Shakopee Boys Basketball Association’s recreation program, each player receives a FREE ticket to a designated Minnesota Timberwolves game. Parents or guardians can also join in the fun by purchasing companion tickets for a reasonable price.

This special event, in coordination with the Timberwolves, has been a highlight of our program for the past two seasons. It’s a great way for our players and families to enjoy an exciting NBA experience together. This opportunity is included as a benefit of participating in our recreation program.
