
Basketball Operations Committee
The Basketball Operations Committee oversees key basketball-related processes, including player evaluations, coach selection, and team rostering.
From section 13.5.1 of the Travel Handbook:
Board Liaison Role: Each grade level will have a designated Board Liaison from the Basketball Operations Committee. The Board Liaison will:
• Meet with team parents at the beginning of the season.
• Periodically attend team games or practices during the season.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for parents and coaches regarding questions or concerns.
To ensure impartiality, the assigned liaison cannot be a parent of a player in the grade they oversee.
🏀 Basketball Operations Committee (BOC) – Expectations & Responsibilities
🎯 Primary Responsibilities
✅ Player Evaluations
- Conduct player evaluations for both Travel and Recreation programs.
- Develop consistent evaluation standards and ensure fairness and transparency in the process.
- Provide recommendations on team placement based on observations and data.
✅ Grade Leadership
- Serve as the lead for one grade level’s teams and coaches (other than your child’s grade).
- Perform in-season evaluations of teams, players, and coaches to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement.
- Actively engage with coaches to provide support, feedback, and mentoring as needed.
✅ Liaison Role
- Be available as a neutral liaison between the Board and families, players, or coaches when conflicts or concerns arise.
- Help communicate the association’s philosophy and expectations to coaches and families.
🚀 Program Development & Enhancement
✅ Passion for Basketball
- Stay informed on trends and best practices in youth basketball (player development, coaching techniques, team culture).
- Promote a positive basketball culture within the association.
✅ Enhance Player/Coach/Family Experience
- Provide input and ideas to improve:
- Player development opportunities (clinics, skill sessions, camps).
- Coaching support and education (workshops, resources, mentoring).
- Family and team experiences (communication, events, program culture).
✅ Lead Fall Dr. Dish Shooting Program
- Help coordinate and oversee Fall shooting sessions.
- Ensure sessions are organized, staffed, and impactful for player development.
🏆 Additional Opportunities for Impact
✅ Assist with Coaching Selection
- Support head coach selection for Travel teams when needed.
- Help identify potential assistant coaches in alignment with association guidelines.
✅ Support Offseason Programs
- Contribute to planning and/or leading offseason development programs (skills nights, open gyms, etc.).
✅ Contribute to Long-Term Player Development Strategy
- Assist in shaping the program’s basketball curriculum and age-appropriate development priorities.
- Help monitor adherence to the association’s style of play and coaching philosophy across teams.
📝 Expectations of Committee Members
✔ Attend regular committee meetings and key association events.
✔ Actively engage with coaches and grade levels throughout the season.
✔ Display leadership qualities and represent the association with professionalism and positivity.
✔ Meet a minimum contribution standard tied to incentive eligibility (e.g., participation in evaluations, leadership duties, Dr. Dish program).
